Istiqlal Mosque

Istiqlal mosque is the largest mosque in Southeast Asia. Two hundred thousands Muslims can fit together for a praying services. Although it is a religious building, people from all religions are welcome to come inside to have a tour.
 
Istiqlal means independence in Arabic. Which is why a lot of its architectural elements represents Indonesia’s independence history. Istiqlal mosque was designed by a christian architect, Frederich Silaban and was opened in February 22nd, 1978.
